VOID Loop Quick Start Guide

Welcome to the VOID Loop methodology! This guide will help you get started with your first systematic SEO workflow.

What is the VOID Loop?

The VOID Loop is a simple, repeatable framework to go from idea → workflow → learning → next idea:

Getting Started in 4 Steps

Step 1: Choose Your First Project

Pick something you do manually and repeatedly: - ✅ Keyword research and clustering - ✅ Content gap analysis - ✅ SERP monitoring - ✅ Internal link audits - ✅ Competitor tracking

Pro tip: Start small. Your first VOID Loop should take 1-2 weeks maximum.

Step 2: Fill Out the Vision Template

Download VOID_Vision_Template.md and spend 30 minutes filling it out:

  1. Problem Statement - What manual process are you automating?
  2. Pattern Description - What pattern do you see in the data?
  3. Data Sources - Where will you get your data? (GSC, SERP, etc.)
  4. Target Impact - What specific outcome do you want?
  5. Success Criteria - How will you know it worked?

Example Vision:

"I manually check PAA questions for 50 keywords weekly. I notice questions change seasonally but have no systematic way to track this. I want to automate PAA collection and identify trending topics to inform content strategy."

Step 3: Create Your PRD

Use VOID_PRD_Template.md to define your technical specifications:

  1. Inputs - What data goes in? (format, frequency, source)
  2. Outputs - What do you want to get out? (reports, alerts, data)
  3. Constraints - What are your limits? (budget, time, complexity)
  4. Metrics - How will you measure success?
  5. Guardrails - What could go wrong? How to prevent it?

Pro tip: Be specific about data formats. "CSV with columns X, Y, Z" not "some data export."

Step 4: Build Your v0.1

Use VOID_Implementation_Checklist.md to ensure you build properly:

Common first implementations: - Python script that runs locally - Google Sheets with Apps Script - n8n workflow - Simple web scraper

Step 5: Analyze and Learn

Use VOID_Deep_Dive_Template.md after running your automation:

  1. Compare results to expectations - Did it work as planned?
  2. Document edge cases - What broke? What was unexpected?
  3. Calculate ROI - Time saved vs. time invested
  4. Make a decision - Keep, kill, or iterate?
  5. Plan next steps - What would v0.2 look like?

Pro tip: Write the Deep Dive even if the project failed. Failures teach more than successes.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

❌ Starting Too Big

Don't try to build the "ultimate SEO automation platform" on day 1. Start with one specific task.

❌ Skipping Documentation

"I'll document it later" = "I'll never document it." Fill out templates as you go.

❌ No Success Metrics

If you can't measure success, you can't improve. Define metrics in your PRD.

❌ Building Black Boxes

Add logging and observability. You should always know what your automation is doing.

❌ Not Learning from Failures

Failed experiments are valuable. Document what didn't work and why.

Example: PAA Monitoring in 1 Week

Day 1: Fill out Vision template (30 min) Day 2: Create PRD with specific inputs/outputs (1 hour)
Day 3-5: Build Python script to scrape PAA questions (3 hours) Day 6: Test with 10 keywords, fix bugs (2 hours) Day 7: Write Deep Dive, plan v0.2 (30 min)

Total time: ~7 hours over 1 week Output: Working automation + complete documentation
